In the Utajärvi geological time trail, you can travel back in time all the way to the development of the Finnish bedrock.
There is a path going through the time trail with more than 50 rock boulders along it. The first and oldest stone in the park’s time trail is the 3.5 billion-year-old Siurua gneiss. It is also the oldest known stone in the entire European Union. The rocks along the trail tell of the oceans, continental glaciers, volcanoes and deserts that prevailed in Finland back in the days.
Next to the time trail, in a shed, there is also a regional information point, where you can find general information about Rokua Geopark, as well as comprehensive information about the nature, culture and tourist services, interesting places to visit and hiking routes in Oulujoki River Valley, Rokua and Oulujärvi regions.
