In the heritage village of Kalevala, you can get acquainted with the rich cultural history of the village of Ahmas, with a large number of poets and folk healers. Their poems and spells have ended up all the way to the Finnish national epic Kalevala.
“The Poetry Singer’s Path” runs through the village, along which there are beautiful buildings honoring the old building culture and the people who influenced in Ahmas. After passing through the path, you learned, among other things, who were Iso-Lassi and Lucia Rusintytär Korhonen, why were poems and spells recited in their time, and from whom Elias Lönnrot collected material for compiling the national epic Kalevala. The traditional village also has an open-air stage and auditorium, where get-togethers and poetry evenings are celebrated. The village has an outdoor toilet and a fireplace.
The info signs around the village have English texts. You can inquire about guided tours from Ahmaksen kyläseura association.
