Rokua UNESCO Global Geopark is Finland’s first UNESCO Global Geopark and a unique educational travel destination in Northern Finland. The area showcases one of the best-preserved Ice Age landscapes in the Nordic region, shaped by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago.

The Geopark functions as a living classroom where learners explore geology, biodiversity, climate, sustainability and cultural heritage through hands-on, inquiry-based activities. Learning takes place outdoors in forests, lakes, eskers and dunes, complemented by workshops, field studies and guided reflection.

Programmes are designed according to Finnish learner-centred pedagogy and can be adapted to different age groups, seasons and learning objectives. Rokua offers a peaceful, uncrowded and safe environment, ideal for international school groups, students, educators and educational professionals.

Key themes: Ice Age geology and geoheritage, Climate and the northern environment, Biodiversity and ecosystems, Sustainability and responsible living, Finnish culture, history and local communities.

Activities: Guided geological hikes (eskers, dunes, kettle holes),
Field studies in forests, wetlands and lakes, Biodiversity and climate workshops, Problem-based and experiential learning tasks.
